Part of what has made Fortnite so popular over the years is the regular content updates and ever-expanding catalogue of cool and crazy items. From novel weapons to handy heals, Epic has dreamt up all sorts of gadgets and gizmos for us to enjoy.
Inspired by a recent tweet from @ShiinaBR, we’re going to take a look at some loot that’s been sitting in the vault for a long time now. This is by no means an exhaustive list, and we didn’t even get on to Traps, but if you remember all five you’re a true OG!
Let’s get started…
Ok, this one is stolen straight from Shiina’s post. Because I’ll be honest, I had kinda forgotten about it. The ultimate tool for third-partying build fights, Air Strikes let you call in a devastating aerial assault on any chosen location.
Simply throw the canister towards your target and it would emit red smoke and play a siren sound to mark the spot. Shortly after, a barrage of missiles would rain down on your enemies, destroying structures and dealing plenty of damage.
Need to buy some time mid-fight or lure out a hiding opponent? Chucking down a Decoy Grenade would spawn in an AI bot wearing all the same cosmetics as you and wielding either an Assault Rifle or Tactical Shotgun.
The decoys could not deal damage and disappeared after 10 seconds, but would make for an excellent distraction. Perhaps because they were in-game during the most action-packed part of Chapter 2, i.e. Seasons 2 and 3, Decoy Grenades never made that big of a splash with fans.
Exclusive to Chapter 1’s pirate-themed 8th season, this was essentially a map which would guide you to the location of a hidden underground Chest. Players could follow a golden light in the sky when holding it and dig up their prize with a Pickaxe.
As well as being a fun and unique concept, Buried Treasure was also potentially the most powerful item on this list. This is because the Chests were guaranteed to drop Legendary items. Yep, you could get a gold Pump, gold Assault Rifle and a Chug Jug, all in one go!
Though not an official collaboration, the short-lived Kingsman melee weapon appears to be a reference to the “Kingsman: The Secret Service” movie. Many people never even knew it existed… after all it was only available for a couple of weeks.
Aside from smacking enemies for a solid bit of damage, the Kingsman could also be deployed as a glider to avoid fall damage. What’s more, defensively it functioned as an effective shield, blocking bullets similarly to the Star Wars Lightsaber item.
Eye Of The Storm Tracker
Only the real Fortnite nerds know about this mysterious piece of kit! The Eye Of The Storm Tracker acted a bit like the Storm Scout Sniper, revealing the next Storm Circle on your mini map. To make it even stronger, you didn’t even need to have it selected in your inventory for it to work.
Why’s it so special? Well, after accidentally being introduced in the v4.20 update, it was removed in less than 30 minutes, never to be seen again. The Storm Tracker was replaced by the Jetpack, which was the item that was supposed to be added originally.
