(Salt Lake City, UT) — A double fatal accident early Saturday morning is now over on the right shoulder of I-15 northbound prior to 600S/Downtown Salt Lake City as of 9:14 a.m. Trooper Nikki Vargas with UHP says it looks like two are deceased, both drivers involved in the two car crash. One of the cars had entered the freeway, wrong-way, from 600 South.
“Two vehicles crashed, there was a blue FJ Cruiser, which was traveling northbound on I-15 in the northbound lanes, then there was a white Ford Focus traveling wrong way southbound in the northbound lanes. It was a head-on collision, single occupants of both vehicles were deceased on scene,” says Vargas.
She says it appears that the Ford Focus got on 600 South going the wrong way shortly before 5 a.m. One of the drivers was not wearing a seat belt. Impairment is being investigated as a possible cause, but not confirmed as of early Saturday morning.
Troopers are investigating a double fatal crash at 600 S I-15 northbound. Please use alternate route if possible. More details will be released as they become available.
