SALT LAKE CITY – Utah volleyball standout Dani Drews has been named a first-team AVCA All-American for the third year in a row, the AVCA announced Wednesday morning. Drews, who is Utah’s most decorated player in program history, is the only Ute to have earned first team honors multiple times in a career and ends her career with four All-American honors after earning a second-team distinction as a sophomore.
Drews earns the national recognition after posting 5.19 kills per set this season, which ranks first in the Pac-12 and fourth in the nation, while posting a league-best 5.45 kills per set in Pac-12 play. The Sandy, Utah native also led the conference in points per set (5.77) and is third in the country. She posted 581 kills this season, which ranks third all-time at Utah for most in a single season, and hit a career-best .276 in her final year.
Drews was named the AVCA Pacific South Region Player of the Year for the third-straight season, along with landing a spot on the All-Region and All-Pac-12 teams for the fourth year in a row. She posted 12 matches of 20-plus kills and totaled a team-best 12 double-doubles. Drews also led the team with 35 aces and posted the second-most digs (293).
The fifth year Ute became Utah’s all-time leader in kills, ending her career with 2,268 kills. She also eclipsed the 1,000-dig mark and posted 1,104 career digs. Drews became the only Ute to post 2,000 kills and 1,000 digs in a career and just the sixth player in Pac-12 history to do so. She finished her career second all-time in Pac-12 history for career kills.
Drews also holds the single-season program record in kills (643, 2019) and the single-match record in kills in the rally-scoring era in three sets (22, 2018), four sets (30, 2x) and five sets (33, 2019). Drews finished her career at Utah as the all-time leader in career kills (2,268), sets played (561), and matches played (150), while finishing sixth in aces (126) and ninth in digs (1,104).
