Memphis football lost one defensive lineman to the transfer portal this week but added another on Thursday.
Hydee Barlow, a sophomore at Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College, announced his commitment to the Tigers on Twitter. In four games at defensive tackle last season, he had 25 tackles, including five for loss.
In 21 career games at MGCCC, Barlow had 40 tackles, 12½ for loss. According to Barlow’s statement, his season was cut short due to a torn ACL.
Barlow continues the Tigers’ trend of emphasizing junior college players in this recruiting cycle. Memphis signed five juco players in December, more than they had in the 2021 class.
The Tigers also need more depth at defensive line. They return three fifth-year seniors in Morris Joseph, Wardalis Ducksworth and Maurice White but need to replace starting tackle John Tate after he finished his eligibility.
