Thirty years ago — 1991
The Dunkirk Patriots Drum and Bugle Corps recently had its new bus blessed during a ceremony held at St. Hyacinth’s Church. Pictured with the bus are Walter Latona, business manager; the Rt. Rev. Msgr. Casimir A. Zak, who performed the blessing; and Robert Teclaw, corps director. The corps purchased the bus through various fund raisers and prize money earned at parades. It will be used to transport corps members to and from parades.
Forty years ago — 1981
The Thordahl family of Gowanda State Road in North Collins has a turkey for dinner every day. Their pet turkey “Tom” pecks on the kitchen door whenever he’s ready for another slice of bread. “He’s just another turkey that doesn’t know he is one,” Alice Thordahl explained. The year-old bird has become a family pet and destined to live out a full life. A watchdog of sorts, “Tom” gobbles when someone enters the yard.
Fifty years ago — 1971
The Dunkirk Narcotics Advisory Council has presented five sets of books on drug education to Dunkirk elementary school libraries. Dr. L. Walter Schultze is chairman of the council.
