SALT LAKE CITY – Abilene Christian wins an offensive rock fight 64-50 on the road against Dixie State.
The Trailblazers (0-2, 7-8) hosted the Abilene Christian Wildcats (2-0, 11-2) in Burns Arena in St. George, UT on Saturday, January 1.
Neither team was able to crack the 40 percent shooting barrier on a tough offensive night in St. George. Abilene Christian finished shooting 36.1 percent while the Trailblazers were even worse, connecting on just 32.6 percent of their shots.
Dixie State was ice cold in the first half, missing their first six shots and turning the ball over three times before scoring their first bucket.
By that time, the Wildcats had built an 11-0 advantage. Dixie finished the first half shooting 30.4 percent from the field and missing all eight of their three point attempts.
Dixie State managed to hit two threes in the second half, but it wasn’t nearly enough in the loss.
Cameron Steele came off the bench for Abilene Christian to lead all scorers with 23 points.
Two Trailblazers finished in double digit scoring as Dancell Leter finished with 15 and Hunter Schofield had 10.
Dixie State now take the show on the road as the head north up I-15 to face the Utah Valley Wolverines in Orem, UT on Saturday, January 8. Tipoff is scheduled for 2 p.m. (MDT). This game will be streamed on ESPN+.
