SALT LAKE CITY – Northern Colorado held the Southern Utah Thunderbirds in check to get the 91-81 win.
The Thunderbirds (3-1, 9-5) hosted the Northern Colorado Bears (3-0, 8-7) on Saturday, January 1 at The America First Event Center in Cedar City, UT.
Falling behind by double figures early, the Thunderbirds were unable to claw their way back into the game. A first half run cut the deficit to three at 13-10, but they would get no closer than that.
Southern Utah allowed Northern Colorado to shoot 50 percent from the field in the first half, including 45 percent from beyond the arc, digging a twelve point hole at halftime, trailing 44-32.
Five Thunderbirds scored in double-figures, led by Maizen Fausett’s 21 points in 39 minutes.
Dru Kuxhausen led all scorers, scoring 25 points. He was joined by Bodie Hume who scored 20.
Southern Utah stays home and will welcome in Portland State University on Thursday, January 6. Tipoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. (MDT). The game will be streamed on ESPN+.
