These People Built Their Own Batmobiles (5 That Are Terrible) – HotCars

Superman might be the man of steel, but he’ll never be as cool as Batman. Bruce Wayne is the hero with all the cool gadgets and incredible rides, and as gearheads, we’d take that over super strength any day. And since the first full-length 1966 Batman movie, the different iterations of the Batmobile have maintained its status as the coolest car to ever be in a movie.

It’s little wonder that so many die-hard fans want to drive their own Batmobile. Who doesn’t want a car that is sleek and loaded with high-tech equipment? Sadly, buying a brand-new Batmobile from your local car dealership is impossible, so some people have naturally set out to build their own.

In this list, we handpicked the best homemade Batmobiles and compared them to five that should have never come into existence.

10 Awesome: The Tumbler Batmobile By Bob Dullam

When the Batman Begins movie premiered in 2005, the Tumbler Batmobile was one of the highlights of the movie, and it was by far the coolest movie car many people had ever seen. Bob Dullam spent five years and over $50,000 creating a replica of the Tumbler in his garage, and the result is astonishing.

Bob makes props and costumes for a living, and he had no prior car-building experience or access to blueprints for the Tumbler. He only relied on photos of the Batmobile and hours of hard work to create this cool DIY Batmobile.

9 Laughably Bad: The Wrecked $100 Batmobile

This fan-made iteration of the Batmobile is so bad that Jalopnik rated it as the “world’s worst Batmobile.” The owner of this undesirable junker used a wrecked 1994 Pontiac Grand Am he bought for a mere $100 as the base vehicle. We are absolutely disappointed with his effort since the car doesn’t in any way reflect the sleek and cool ethos of a Batmobile.

It is a sad recreation of the iconic vehicle. This is what you get when you try to do a quick Batmobile conversion with just dark spray paint and a bat symbol.

8 Awesome: The Nine Years In-Production Batmobile

This Texas-based Batman fan recognizes that creating a true replica of a vehicle as iconic as the Batmobile requires years of effort and lots of resources. He spent nine years creating a replica of the 1966 Batmobile for Batman: The Movie. The ride features gadgets from the original like an in-car telephone, red light on the roof, and a pair of parachutes.

The original 1966 Batmobile was based on the Lincoln Futura concept car, but we don’t know the base vehicle for this fan-made iteration. However, we are sure it’s a really fun car to own.

7 Laughably Bad: The Beetle Batmobile

We can only describe this fan-made Batmobile as tasteless. We can’t really narrow down the specific iteration of the Batmobile the owner is trying to replicate…if there is any at all. What we know is that it doesn’t exude the kind of coolness and badassery expected from a Batmobile.

Our other gripes include the massive wing that was placed in the middle of the roof of the car. What’s that all about? We haven’t even started talking about whatever could have inspired the ridiculous contraption on the hood of the car.

6 Awesome: The British Street-Legal Corvette Batmobile

This British Batman fan went all-in on building a fully-functioning replica of the Batmobile used in the 1989 Batman movie. The vehicle was built from the scratch on a custom chassis, and it has a fuel-injected Jaguar 3.2 liter engine. Despite packing many of the features from the original, the ride is fully street-legal.

Alfred would be proud. The vehicle is the perfect recreation of the iconic Batmobile from The Batman (1989), and it will hit 60 mph in less than five seconds. It is also equipped with full LED running lights and hydraulic suspension that can raise the car further by a few inches.

5 Laughably Bad: The Ugly Bat Sedan

We really can’t imagine Bruce Wayne trading his sleek Batmobile for a boring four-door sedan. Yet this is what a rather unimaginative Batman fan would have us do. This fan-made Batmobile looks absolutely ridiculous.

The modifications are really just two rear tail-wings and a bunch of Bat-signal badges placed all over the car. A DIY Batmobile iteration this bad is the worst nightmare of every true Batman fan.

4 Awesome: The Russian Batmobile Worth Over $800,000

A 32-year-old Moscovite worked with the Russian auto-tuning workshop—Fast Boom Pro to create this near-perfect replica of the Batmobile from the 2016 Batman vs Superman: Dawn of Justice. The vehicle is armored with cool features like a night-vision camera, a model gun, a laser aiming device, and bulletproof windows.

Unfortunately, the car was impounded by traffic police in Moscow because it is supersized and doesn’t adhere to safety standards. It has subsequently been sold to a collector for a whopping $842,000.

3 Laughably Bad: The Duct Tape Bat Truck

Have you ever imagined what would happen if the Bat decided to patrol the streets of Gotham in a truck? Someone did. However, we don’t think Batman would be too keen on using such a flimsily equipped vehicle. The Joker wouldn’t be intimidated by a duct-tape-covered truck.

This fan didn’t put in much effort at all. His efforts only amount to applying some black paint and a few rolls of red electric tape—this pales in comparison to other examples on this page.

2 Awesome: The Perfect 1989 Batmobile By Casey Putsch

via: Wired

We should expect something special from Casey Putsch since he is an experienced race car driver and builder. He didn’t disappoint. His 1989 Tim Burton’s Batman-inspired Batmobile is a perfect replica of the original down to the front-mounted turbine engine derived from a Navy Boeing helicopter.

Unlike other DIY fans on this list, it took Casey only five months to build his DIY Batmobile. His ride is truly one-of-a-kind, and he has stated that he has no plans to ever sell it.

1 Laughably Bad: The Not So Smart ForTwo Batmobile

We get the idea; gas prices are soaring and everyone is emphasizing the importance of fuel economy. That’s probably why this fan chose to create a “Smart” Batmobile. However, we seriously doubt Batman would worry too much about fuel economy and finding a parking spot.

There is really no space for Bruce Wayne to fit all his gadgets and weapons. He’s better off chasing the bad guys on foot.
