OGDEN — A Utah man was arrested in Ogden after police say he stalked one woman and also took photos of other women in shopping areas without them knowing.
The 27-year-old man was booked into the Weber County Jail Thursday for investigation of stalking and voyeurism.
On Wednesday, police in South Ogden were dispatched to the 3700 block of Washington Boulevard after receiving a call about a suspicious vehicle outside of a woman’s home. An officer pulled over a pickup truck that matched the description from the caller, who was following the car and pulled over behind the officer, according to the police affidavit.
The caller told police that a man had been following her throughout the day, and she first noticed him while she was shopping at TJ Maxx. Later, she noticed the pickup truck following her home. She was home for roughly 90 minutes before leaving, and the truck was no longer there. However, she returned home to find the truck in a parking lot across the street from her home, the affidavit states. When she tried to drive to the parked pickup, a man in the vehicle drove away.
Police later spoke to the driver, who told them he saw the woman at TJ Maxx and “liked what he saw,” according to the affidavit. Police say the man told them that he followed the woman home, then went to a nearby Target to “follow more women.” He later returned to the woman’s home and noticed her car was gone, so he parked nearby to wait but said he “had no intention of speaking to the victim, he just wanted to watch her,” the affidavit says.
After searching the man’s phone, the arresting officer wrote that he found “several videos” where the man “would follow women around Target and Tj Maxx, along with Walmart, filming the buttox of several females.”
In one video, the man attempted to take a video from under a woman’s skirt without her knowledge, according to the affidavit. Police said they were later able to identify the woman, who told them that the man had followed her around Target.
Police noted that there are “dozens” of potential victims from Jordan Landing, Salt Lake City and Weber County areas, although investigators were only able to identify two victims.
